Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before booking your 10-day Namibia safari.

What does 'private safari' mean for this tour?

Private means the vehicle, guide, and itinerary are exclusively yours for the full 10 days. You set the pace — if you want to stay longer at a waterhole or skip a stop, your guide adapts. There are no other passengers sharing your vehicle or schedule.

Is 10 days enough to see all of Namibia?

This itinerary covers Namibia’s greatest highlights — Namib Desert, Sossusvlei, Skeleton Coast, Swakopmund, Damaraland, and Etosha. It’s a very well-paced 10 days. For those wanting to add the Fish River Canyon, Kalahari, or Caprivi Strip, we offer extended custom itineraries.

What level of fitness is required?

The itinerary is suitable for most fitness levels. Climbing the dunes at Sossusvlei is optional and strenuous — you can also admire from the base. Game drives are entirely vehicle-based. The Twyfelfontein walk involves gentle uneven terrain. Please mention any mobility considerations when enquiring.

What is the best time to visit Namibia?

Year-round — different seasons offer different experiences. May–October is the dry season, excellent for Etosha game viewing as wildlife concentrates at waterholes. November–April brings green landscapes, wildflowers, and good birding. The coast and Namib Desert are pleasant year-round.

Can I customise the itinerary?

Yes — this tour is fully customisable. We can adjust the pace, swap accommodation tiers, add or remove stops, extend the duration, add a Zanzibar or Cape Town extension, or build an entirely bespoke route. Tell us what matters most to you when you enquire.

What type of accommodation is used on the Standard package?

The Standard package uses a mix of comfortable guesthouses (Windhoek), desert lodges (Sesriem area), coastal guesthouses (Swakopmund), a Damaraland lodge, and lodges inside or near Etosha National Park — all with private en-suite bathrooms. The Premium and Luxury packages upgrade these to higher-end properties.

What Past Travellers Say

Verified reviews from travellers who completed this safari.

★★★★★

“The Baines Baobabs at sunset on Day 8 — I’ve been a wildlife photographer for 20 years and that single evening gave me some of the best images of my career. Mogotlho’s guides understand photography at a level I’ve never encountered anywhere else in Africa.”

Trip: 10-Night Botswana Photographic Safari

★★★★★

“Watching 400 zebra arrive at the Nxai Pan waterhole at dawn, then the Kalahari lions following them in — all within an hour, from 30 metres. Nxai Pan is Botswana’s best kept secret and this itinerary gave us three full nights there. Unforgettable.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about this photographic safari.

Do I need specialist photography equipment?

No — this safari is designed for anyone who loves wildlife and wants outstanding photographic opportunities. Mogotlho’s guides assist with positioning and technique. A DSLR/mirrorless with a 200–500mm zoom lens is ideal, but even a good smartphone or compact camera will produce excellent results.

What luggage restrictions apply in Botswana?

Domestic flights in Botswana allow 20kg, and light aircraft (Okavango Delta charters) allow 12kg including hand luggage. Soft-sided bags are strongly recommended over hard suitcases. We advise all guests on packing specifics when confirming the booking.

Do I need a visa for Botswana?

Citizens of most European, Commonwealth, and US/Canadian nationalities receive a free visa on arrival. We recommend confirming your specific nationality’s requirements before travel and carry a valid passport with at least 6 months remaining. We provide a full visa guide to confirmed guests.

What vaccinations are required?

A Yellow Fever certificate is required if arriving from a yellow fever endemic country. No other vaccinations are legally required, but we recommend up-to-date tetanus, polio, diphtheria (TPD), and Hepatitis A. Malaria prophylaxis is strongly advised for Chobe, Khwai, and the Delta areas.

What is the best time of year for this safari?

Botswana is excellent year-round. May–October (dry season) offers the most concentrated wildlife around water sources. November–April (green season) brings lush landscapes, excellent birding, and the Nxai Pan zebra migration. We advise on optimal timing based on your interests.

Can I view the full digital itinerary?

Yes — the full digital itinerary including lodge details, maps, and daily information is available at wetu.com. Ask us for the link when you enquire, or reference code LUX_01_TouristLads. It includes all lodge imagery, activity descriptions, and travel guidance.
