What Expedition Guests Say

Verified reviews from guests who completed the Genesis & Galaxy Expedition.

★★★★★

“The astronomer on Night 12 showed us Saturn’s rings through a telescope on Chief’s Island while explaining how the same cosmic dust created the Kalahari sand beneath our feet. That single moment changed how I understand the universe. I’ve never experienced anything like it.”

★★★★★

“Finding a Middle Stone Age tool on Day 2 — holding something a human hand last touched 80,000 years ago — and then watching black-maned Kalahari lions at dusk from the elevated sky-deck. This is not a safari. It is a masterclass in existence.”

Yuki & Kenji T.

Trip: Genesis & Galaxy Expedition

★★★★★

“The silent electric 4×4 on the night drive in Khwai changed everything. We were 8 metres from a leopard with her cub on a termite mound. She didn’t flinch. No engine noise. No disturbance. Just us and the thermal image of her spotted coat in the dark. Extraordinary.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before joining the Genesis & Galaxy Expedition.

Do I need scientific knowledge to enjoy the expedition?

No prior scientific knowledge is required — that is the point. Both the astronomer and paleo-anthropology specialist are expert communicators who make their subjects vivid and accessible to all backgrounds. Past guests have included school teachers, investment bankers, and retired nurses, all of whom described the specialist sessions as the highlight of the entire trip.

What is the electric 4×4 experience like for wildlife?

The electric vehicles are completely silent — no engine vibration, no diesel fumes, no mechanical noise. Wildlife behaves entirely differently around them. Predators ignore the vehicle completely, allowing closer, longer, and more natural sightings than any conventional safari vehicle. The night tracking sessions with thermal imaging are particularly extraordinary.

What are the Meru tents like?

Meru tents are luxury canvas safari tents — fully standing, en-suite with private flush toilet and hot bucket shower, king-sized beds with hotel-quality linen, and a private veranda overlooking the wilderness. They are set up and dismantled by the camp crew as you move between locations. They are not standard camping — they are luxury accommodation that happens to be in the middle of the bush.

What is the physical fitness requirement?

Moderate fitness is required. Walking distances are generally short (1–3km), and there are no strenuous climbs. The quad bike session (Day 3) and walking activities require basic mobility. Guests with specific physical conditions should contact us before booking so we can tailor the itinerary accordingly.

Can the expedition be customised?

Yes — the Genesis & Galaxy Expedition is a private experience and every element is flexible. We can extend or shorten the itinerary, swap specific days, add helicopter transfers, arrange additional specialist guides, or design a completely custom version. Contact us with your preferences and we’ll design the exact experience.

What happens if weather prevents the Chief's Island fly-in?

In the unlikely event of weather preventing the Day 12 fly-in, we have pre-arranged overland alternative access to Chief’s Island and alternative celebratory dinner locations within the Okavango Delta. The astronomy finale will take place regardless of transport method — clear night skies are the norm in the Okavango in safari season.
